Manifesto

Commerce is moving from search-driven browsing to intent-driven delegation.

For two decades, ecommerce was about getting humans to your page. You optimized for search engines, you ran ads, you A/B-tested checkout, you wrote product descriptions that hopefully ranked. The entire web was wrapped around the assumption that a person — a human — would arrive, browse, decide, and buy.

That assumption is breaking. People are starting to delegate shopping to AI agents. They no longer want to compare ten options across five tabs. They want to express an intent — “a quiet espresso machine under $400 that will actually fit on my counter” — and have an agent do the work.

When that happens, the storefront stops being the surface of competition. Beautiful product pages do not help an LLM. Carousels do not help an LLM. SEO copy written for humans is not the language an agent speaks.

The new surface of competition is commerce data: structured, normalized, trustworthy, and addressable by agents. The next winners in ecommerce will not just have nice storefronts. They will have machine-readable infrastructure underneath.

That is what AgentCarts is building. A simple, open layer that lets every Shopify store — and eventually every store — expose what an agent needs to recommend a product with confidence:

  • What the product is, in stable, parseable terms.
  • What it costs, ships as, returns as, and lasts as.
  • Who the merchant is, and whether they can be trusted.
  • How an agent should hand off a buyer to checkout safely.

We believe agent-readable commerce will become as important as SEO became in the 2000s. The merchants who adopt it early will be the ones surfaced when an agent says, “here’s the one you should buy.”

The storefront era was about getting attention. The agent era is about being legible. AgentCarts exists so any store can become both.
